Ho’oponopono: The Practice That Changed How it changed my life!
There is a beautiful Hawaiian practice that has quietly become one of my guiding mantras for life.
It is called Ho’oponopono. At its heart, Ho’oponopono is a practice of healing, reconciliation, and returning to harmony with ourselves, with others and with life.
Over the years I have studied and trained in many healing modalities. I am an advanced practitioner of Ho’oponopono, and it is something I use regularly, not only with clients but also in my own daily life.
In truth, it has become more than a technique. It has become a way of living and it has changed my life.
What Is Ho’oponopono?
Ho’oponopono originates from ancient Hawaiian spiritual tradition. The word itself loosely translates to “to make things right” or “to correct errors.”
Traditionally it was used within families and communities to restore balance when relationships had become strained.
Modern Ho’oponopono is beautifully simple and centres around four healing phrases:
I’m sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.
I love you.
These words may appear simple, but when spoken with genuine awareness they can create profound emotional and energetic shifts.
Why It Is So Powerful
In our lives we often carry unspoken hurts, resentments, guilt, or emotional imprints from past experiences. These can sit quietly in the background, influencing how we feel, how we react, and how we relate to others.
Ho’oponopono invites us to take responsibility for our inner world and gently clear what no longer serves us.
It is not about blame.
It is about recognising that healing begins within.
When we repeat the phrases, we are acknowledging that something within our experience is ready to be released.
Through compassion, forgiveness and love, we allow that energy to soften and dissolve.
How I Use Ho’oponopono With Clients
In my work as a spiritual mentor, healer and energy practitioner, Ho’oponopono often forms part of the healing space I hold for clients.
Sometimes it is spoken quietly during a Reiki session.
Sometimes it is used as a guided mantra during meditation.
Other times it becomes a gentle practice I encourage clients to use at home.
What I have seen time and time again is that when people begin to work with these words sincerely, something shifts.
Relationships soften.
Old emotional weight lifts.
People begin to experience a deeper sense of peace.
It is incredibly simple, yet incredibly powerful.
My Personal Mantra for Life
Personally, Ho’oponopono has become something I return to again and again.
When life feels complicated…
When emotions arise…
When relationships feel difficult…
When I simply want to clear my energy…
I come back to these four phrases.
I’m sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.
I love you.
They remind me that healing does not need to be complicated.
Sometimes the most powerful shifts happen when we soften, take responsibility, and return to love.
A Simple Way to Begin
You can practise Ho’oponopono at any moment.
Sit quietly for a few minutes.
Bring to mind a situation, person, or feeling that feels unresolved.
Then gently repeat the phrases:
I’m sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.
I love you.
Allow the words to move through you without force.
Simply let them be present.
Over time you may begin to notice something subtle but beautiful — a feeling of lightness, spaciousness, and peace.
Returning to Harmony
In a world that often encourages us to look outward for solutions, Ho’oponopono reminds us of something deeply powerful:
Healing begins within.
For me, it has become a daily practice, a healing tool, and a philosophy for life.
And perhaps its greatest teaching is this:
When we choose forgiveness, compassion and love —
we return ourselves to harmony.
With love,
